Calling the Philippines

How to Call the Philippines

Phone Cards from the USA to the World

Connecting with someone who lives in the Philippines can easily be done by giving them a phone call. If you have a friend or loved one living in the country, read on to find out the steps to follow to call them up and get in touch.

Steps

  1. Dial the international access code of the country from where you are making the call. The international access code, also known as the exit code or IDD International Direct Dialing code, allows you to place a call outside of your country. Many countries use either the international access codes 00 or 011.
    • 011 is the international code for the United States and Canada, as well as some parts of the Caribbean.
    • 00 is the exit code for many countries in the continents of Africa, Asia, Europe and South America.
    • 0011 is the exit code for Australia.
    • There are some other countries which have special exit codes such as the Russian Federation (8 Pause 10) and Brazil (varies depending on the telecom network being used).

  2. Dial 63, which is the country code for the Philippines.
  3. Dial the area code or city code of the particular city in which you want to place a call to. This is either a one or two-digit code. The area codes for some of the major cities in the Philippines are the following:
    • 2 for Metro Manila
    • 32 for Cebu
    • 82 for Davao
    • 45 for Angeles
    • 34 for Bacolod

  4. Dial the local telephone number of the person you are calling. This would normally be a seven-digit number.
    • The number format of a call placed to Metro Manila, Philippines from the US would be like this: 011 – 63 – 2 – xxx – xxxx.

Tips

  • To call a Philippine mobile number, drop the area code, then dial 9 before the mobile number. The number 9 is usually followed by a two-digit number prefix, which differs depending on the mobile network being used. For example, a typical number format for a call placed from the US to a Philippine mobile number would be like this: 011 – 63 – 9xx – xxx – xxxx.
  • Check the time zone being followed in the Philippines before placing a call. The Philippines follows the standard time zone of UTC/GMT + 8 hours.
  • Another cheaper option to connect with someone in the Philippines is to use an Internet phone calling service such as Skype, since making a phone call through the traditional route can normally be expensive.
