Testing the Motorcycle Back Rider {COVID-19} BARRIER SHIELD | PHILIPPINES
We just received our back rider shield from Lazada and we're going to test this out.
This controversial product has raised many eyebrows from many of the locals in the Philippines. Many calling it unsafe and unnecessary.
Being a visitor here in the Philippines, we need to respect and follow the rules. If they say we need a barrier back ride shield to ride together (husband and wife), we will comply.
Many question the reasoning behind the shield, only because we don't use barrier shields in the home. There are also concerns of safety. If the shield is too high off the driver's back, it could catch the wind and unstabilize the bike, causing a crash. Many wonder why the full face helmets along with a mask is not enough?
The first prototype was a shield that was connected to the back pedals and had its own handlebars.
Many questioned how they were to fill their gas tanks as most of the scooters around here the gas tank is below the seat. Within the past few weeks, the backpack barrier shield was approved.
You see many different types of shield on the road, including many homemade ones consisting of cardboard and a plastic bag. It is an added expense to the locals and since many households rely on their motorcycles, they will do whatever it takes to get from point A to point B.
We are required to carry our marriage certificate if we are stopped for any reason to show proof of the husband/wife riders.
Private vehicles(cars) are not required to have any barriers within the car, however, taxis, tricycles, and jeepneys (public transportation) are required. But motorcycles/scooters are required.
Please make sure to stay safe out there on the roads especially riding a motorcycle. If you're using the shield, keep the speeds down as you'll never know if a big gust of wind will catch the shield and throw you off balance.
